Welcome to 1st grade!

First grade is a foundational year that focuses on building routines for independence and confidence as a learner. Reading and writing are integral parts of the day.  Students learn to decode, focus on comprehension, and communicate their thinking as they grow their reading and writing abilities.

First graders learn to work together as a community, support one another, take risks, and ask questions.  Students make new friends, use technology, and become independent learners and communicators of their thinking. First Grade is a busy and exciting year of learning!

The core curriculum for elementary-aged students is grounded in Minnesota state standards with a focus on math, science, social studies and English-language arts/literacy. The language arts curriculum encompasses the areas of literature, informative texts, writing, speaking, viewing, listening, media literacy and language skills.
